The ever growing popularity of the Internet has made it possible to make money in many different ways.
One method is by using affiliate programs and there are four main areas we need to consider.
1. Pay Per Play
This is a fairly new concept, but you place advertising script on your webpage that plays an ad every time someone opens a page. The ad is designed to match the theme of the webpage so the listener will be able to briefly hear a promotion from an advertiser. You earn a small commission every time an ad plays.
There is nothing too complicated about pay per play and this type of program is good for webmasters with large websites and blogs that get a lot of traffic.
2. Pay Per Sale
You earn commissions with this type of program every time somebody buys a product from your affiliate website address. Or you can place what's known as affiliate links within the text on various different pages of your website and when someone clicks on one of those they will be taken to your affiliate page where they can purchase one of your products.
This is more difficult than some of the other methods purely because you are asking the visitor to spend money but, done right, it has the potential to earn huge sums.
The most successful affiliate marketers sell products that relate to a specific, targeted niche. Niche marketing has become popular as search engines strive to narrow down broad-based theme websites.
3. Pay Per Lead
When a customer fills out a lead form on your website you are paid for that action by the affiliate merchant. This can be as little as a few pennies to as high as several dollars per lead. Real estate companies will even pay higher than that. You can also supply leads to industries such as mortgage brokers and home improvements.
4. Pay Per Click
This form of affiliate marketing that has been dominated over the years by Google Adsense. By joining the Adsense affiliate program you are then able to place script on your webpages that will bring up ads that match the meta tags for that page.
Every time someone clicks on one of those pages you earn a small commission. This is a very easy way to make money because nothing is required of you once you get everything properly set up. Other pay per click affiliate programs include 7search, SearchFeed, Yahoo Marketing, Bidvertiser and others.
As I mentioned above, many successful affiliates use niche marketing as their main technique and an example of a niche market would be deep sea fishing.
Fishing would be the broad theme for the website but deep-sea fishing narrows things down to a more specific and targeted group of people.
You could even narrow it down further by choosing a popular type of deep sea fishing and target people that enter certain tournaments associated with it.
As an affiliate marketer, you would make money selling products that included everything about deep sea fishing such as where to fish, how to fish, when to fish, what reels to use, what bait works best for specific types of fish etc.
You can even start a blog and document fishing trips you take. By monetizing this blog with various affiliate programs you can make money when somebody gives you the desired response.
Niche marketing websites are easier to set up because they do not have to become as complex. A website on a general topic such as fishing could take days or even years to develop but a smaller website targeting a specific niche can be up and running in a short amount of time.
Then as you drive traffic to it you can continue to make money while you go out and work on your next niche website.
